Maintenance Technician

Graphic Packaging International, Inc., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, is a leading provider of packaging solutions for a wide variety of products to food, beverage and other consumer products companies. The Company is one of the largest producers of folding cartons and holds a leading market position in coated-unbleached Kraft board and coated-recycled board. One of its facilities is currently seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for the Fort Smith, AR plant that is part of the Consumer Products Division.

Shift is 12-hour nights - 6:45 pm to 7 am - rotating 4 nights on and 4 nights off.

Shift includes weekends, holidays and frequent overtime required. We are a Tobacco Free Facility inside and outside for 12-hour shift.

Position Purpose:

Performs journeyman level electrical/mechanical troubleshooting installations and repairs. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and facilities as assigned. These tasks are done to ensure that equipment and buildings are maintained to a high level of dependability.

Daily supervision may be required to assure that specific job assignments are completed in a safe and timely fashion. To ensure that work performed is a present skill level and abilities are present to advance to a higher craft level in the future.

Job Functions:

• Works in a safe manner and assures co-workers work in a safe manner. Reports safety hazards immediately to appropriate individual. Continues to expand safety awareness by participating in annual safety training programs.
• Troubleshoots and repairs production and support equipment experiencing electrical or mechanical problems.
• Performs electrical/mechanical component replacement, assuring compliance with work order instructions.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment as directed.
• Resolves electrical/mechanical emergency breakdowns on equipment to minimize downtime.
• Performs electrical/mechanical installations as directed.
• Maintains adequate records of work performed on equipment and corrective action taken.
• Displays good work habits that will set good examples for co-workers. Continually monitors and maintains work areas to keep them clean and well organized.
• Responsible for compliance with all facility food safety, food defense, and quality policies and procedures including product safety (GMPs)/Sanitation policies and procedures. Employee must continually work to promote the orderliness and cleanliness of their work area in support of AIB/5's and other company standards.
• Must be supportive of GPI's Mission, Vision, and Core Values (Integrity, Respect, Accountability, Relationships, and Teamwork).
• Must be supportive and involved in GPI efforts for LEAN, 5's, Six Sigma and other Continuous Improvement programs and processes.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Strives to clearly understand customer requirements and delivers results to meet or exceed customer expectations.
• Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting food safety requirements.
• Ability and responsibility to stop any process that is not meeting customer quality requirements.

Job Specifications:

• High school diploma/equivalent is required.
• Preferred: Eighteen- (18) month's technical training in industrial electricity/electronics and mechanical.
• Specialized knowledge of voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters is preferred.
• Preferred experience in welding (all), fabrication, machining.
• Preferred experience working on presses, conveyors, balers blowers, pneumatics/hydraulics.

Physical/Mental Requirements:

• May require overtime and holiday work.
• Will need to work 12-hour night shift, 4 days on, 4 days off.
• Subject to call-ins at short notice.
• Working environment may be noisy, odorous, hot, cold, or otherwise uncomfortable. Some jobs involve hazardous materials, gas pressures, or high voltage.
• Ability to bend, squat, reach above the shoulder and at the waist or lower, twist, stretch, push/pull with force up to 50 lbs.
